Our child ended up with a large item that had been stolen. We had a search, for accessories that went with it (it was out door sports items). The sherrif allowed the victim to come through our home and go through her room, and open drawers and such that could never hide the items…..and she tried to take a bag full of items purchased the day before. Is it legal for the sheriff to allow a civilian to do the actual searching? Touching and digging? I understand trying to id her items…but is that not the job of law enforcement? Do we have a grievance?
